Potential Students

Master's Students
Master's students at the University of Melbourne can usually add a master's research component to their program of study. (We no longer offer honours in the Department of Management and Marketing.) You would need to do two semester's of the MGMT90133 Research Report class: https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/current/MGMT90133, which means meeting with an advisor for about an hour a week, and doing self-directed research. This is a good way to figure out if you are interested in continuing on for a PhD in social science, and satisfies the independent research requirement for the PhD program in Management and Marketing at Melbourne.

If you are interested, I would like someone who is good at follow-through and interested in doing research. You don't have to know anything about art, and I am open to whatever methodology you would like to use, within reason. I anticipate matches based on theoretical direction and fit. If you are so motivated, you would not only complete your master's thesis, but we would also turn this into a paper for publication. This optional step would be useful if you are thinking about an academic career, in addition to impressing potential employers. Plus, it is very satisfying to see your name in print!

To see what I "do" as a researcher, you can have a look at my publications. Feel free to email a request if you do not have journal access. Here are some sample publications: https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=en&user=F1RxMTcAAAAJ

PhD Students
Good matches are important. I am happy to supervise students who are structured and self-motivated. You should have a project in mind prior to approaching me to supervise. These plans will likely change as you go forward, but that is normal. However, the initial planning builds your skills for successful completion. The research doesn't have to be about art or change management, and if I am not a good fit I will probably suggest that you find someone else.

At present, I can only act as second supervisor. You will need to find your primary supervisor prior to contacting me.

Alas, I do not have funds available to support master's or PhD students. You should be searching for your own fellowships from the university's website.

I do not take part-time PhD students, but instead expect you to treat it like a full time job (with a few exceptions). Trust me, I worked off and on throughout my PhD and you wouldn't want to do this to yourself. It drastically reduces your chances of successful completion.

Funding
I do not have funding for students at present. Instead you need to search for funding from the government, university or faculty.
